in 1983 I decided that one medieval pilgrimage wasnt enough. I was going to walk from Salisbury to Wells via Glastonbury. Dave, who failed to complete the previous year decided to join me and Joe, another member of our medieval society, The Knights of the Rose came too. From Salisbury we walked out out to a ridge that took us to Shaftesbury and visited the ruined abbey. We left via the famous Golden Hill used by the Hovis Bread adverts at the time. We visited Templecombe, once owned by the Knights Templar and then headed north to Castle Cary, thought by some to be the site of King Arthur's Camelot. The next major town was Glastonbury, where monks claimed that King Arthur had been buried. We went up the Tor, got thrown out of the George and Pilgrims pub before we even got in properly and slept on the Tor. We finished at Wells and celebrated with a good meal at the cathedral itself.

My book on Medieval English Pilgrimage is now due out 30 May this year.

Over the last two years I was researching Mr John Bennett of Raunds in Northamptonshire, UK.
His will of 1531 requested pilgrimages to be made on his behalf after his death.
I have been trying to discover more about John Bennett, his beliefs and the village of Raunds as it was in the early 1500's.
There are few records.
I made all of the pilgrimages he asked for because there is also no record of who, if anybody, did at the time.

I have made a web site using Google Sites. It is free and you have unlimited pages. I don't need fancy apps for this project.
It is still work in progress.
Here is a link to the site.
