A different approach, the same song!
Uma outra apresentação na altura do Covid. Coro da Universidade de Coimbra. Acordai!
Maestro Fernando Lopes Graça.

We must wake up and fight, that's the underscored meaning for this song. It was created during the authoritarian regime by Salazar, in the 50's.

Cultura Portuguesa. Mastro Lopes Graça - Acordai!

jcrispimromao Here are the lyrics... You can translate it.
Acordai
acordai
homens que dormis
a embalar a dor
dos silêncios vis
vinde no clamor
das almas viris
arrancar a flor
que dorme na raíz
Acordai
acordai
raios e tufões
que dormis no ar
e nas multidões
vinde incendiar
de astros e canções
as pedras do mar
o mundo e os corações
Acordai
acendei
de almas e de sóis
este mar sem cais
nem luz de faróis
e acordai depois
das lutas finais
os nossos heróis
que dormem nos covais
Acordai!

jcrispimromao What is also interesting is that the last interpretation on this clip is by a dutch group (5:01): Kamerkoor JIP

jcrispimromao And it is wonderful how a dutch choir sings so perfectly in Portuguese. There only are a few short moments where you can see they are not portuguese! Amazing!

dansant @jcrispimromao
In the Netherlands we are used to sing in foreign languages.
In many Dutch choirs, singing in English, German, French and/or Latin is common.

Also songs from the Balkans are very popular, e.g.

The European Union is such a diverse group of countries with amazing differences in the influences in Art, Music, Poetry and Literature. Not to talk about the performing arts. We need to make our most precious treasures known amongst all the people across Europe. I am also open to try and answer any questions you might have on the Portuguese Culture and way of life! I will try to post two different works every day and give the links to further explore on the subjects.

De Ploeg is an artists' collective that was founded in the city of Groningen (Netherlands) in 1918. Its members are mainly painters, but musicians and writers have also been members of the Groninger Kunstkring De Ploeg.

Group About
This is a wonderful idea from @jcrispimromao

I may just be dreaming awake... but ... what if each one of us would share some art work representative of his/her own country, being either art, poetry, performing arts? Maybe, just maybe, we could make ourselves create a dynamic of approaching cultures... I say this because I belong to a peripheral european country and I sense most people across Europe do not know much about us, appart from the Discovery times.
